Education is a lifelong relationship between parents, teachers, administration and the community working towards the goal of the betterment of our children.
The vision of Global Scholars Academy is to be a place of excellence where children can achieve their full potential in their academic, creative, personal, physical, and moral development; in which they will develop an appreciation for diversity, demonstrate respect towards others, and show concern for the academic success of their peers. We value the partnership that exists between school, parents, and community and the part it plays in realizing this vision.
At Global Scholars Academy, our goal is to offer students a consistently supportive environment, to fill each day with experiences that lead to educational success, and to help each child build an expansive network of family, educators, and advocates that will support them in their journey.
Global Scholars Academy has a wonderful requirement of parent involvement and will base its success on being able to create a very strong partnership between parents and school. Parents are asked to give back to Global Scholars Academy by attending monthly Parent Empowerment Meetings and volunteering at least 20+ hours throughout the school year. There will be many opportunities available throughout the year both throughout the regular school day as well as during the 21st Century After-school program. These opportunities include reading in the classroom, helping with special activities, performing administrative tasks, volunteering in the library, chaperoning field trips, community service projects and more.
Through our innovative academics, our entrepreneurship training, our financial literacy course and our interdisciplinary arts education, the GSA community is committed to giving at-risk Durham youth the skills they need to make a positive impact in their own lives and the greater world at large. We invite you to visit us and see how our team of teachers and staff can help serve your child’s educational and personal needs.
ENROLLMENT / LOTTERY
Applying to GSA
At GSA we enroll any eligible student under North Carolina Charter Law, with legal residence in the state of North Carolina, and who submits a timely application, unless the number of applicants exceeds the capacity of a program, class, or grade level. Global Scholars Academy is a lottery-based school - We employ a lottery (random selection process) that gives all applicants an equal chance of being admitted if more students apply for admission to the school than can be admitted. Once the slots have been filled students will be placed on the waiting list and entered into the school in that order if a slot becomes available.
If you are curious to know more about the GSA community, please come see for yourself; visit our beautiful Durham campus; talk with Admissions personnel; tour our campus.
Once a child is enrolled at GSA, there is no need to re-apply each year. GSA does not require an admissions test, however student that are admitted will be required to take several diagnostic assessments to determine students academic level.
